We have the power to avoid all the negativity on the news, social media, and advertising distractions. We can avoid feeling overwhelmed and become a beacon of hope without a lot of work. How can you make mindfulness a daily practice in your hectic life? Repetition is how we form habits, whether good or bad. Mindfulness is no different. We’ll discuss gaining control of your life with ease and will practice a simple 5-minute meditation.

Wilderness First Aid via Zoom  **Not a Certification Course**

This informational session will be led by a Nationally Registered EMT, current nursing student/ wilderness first aid instructor, and previous wilderness first responder. This is aimed at beginners and will go over what to pack in the first aid kit, risk management, overview of basic first aid, outdoor specific scenarios, and how to be a good samaritan (and what the heck that even means!)

Outdoor Hike Series

Attendance of at least 2 hikes would result in a Leave No Trace certificate for completion of an awareness course.  Come hike in a safe group and have fun! This series is aimed at safety during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as a goal of creating new environmental stewards in the local area. Directions to the locations will be forwarded to participants one week prior to the outing. Masks must be worn and CDC guidelines will be followed. Must sign a fitness waiver and release form.

Hike 1: Plan ahead and prepare 

Saturday, March 27 - 10:30 - 12 pm - Location: Reed Brook Trail - 

Your guide will bring her pack and show you what she brings on a simple hike. - How being prepared reduces impact on the environment. - Learning objective: Feel confident on what to bring relative to your planned adventure. 

Hike 2: How to (you know what!) in the woods

Saturday, April 17 - 9 am - 12  pm - Location: Mount Waldo Trailhead -

Learning objective: Each hiker will learn how to effectively use the bathroom in the great outdoors in a manner that is globally accepted through the Leave No Trace organization. 

Hike 3: Let the sounds of nature prevail.

Saturday, May 15 -  9 am - 12 pm - Location: Great Pond Mountain Trailhead - 

Basic bird calls in Maine, bonus bird ID (bring your binoculars if you have them!) - Trail etiquette - Learning objective: Learn etiquette of enjoying the outdoors without affecting the experience of those around you. Maybe you will even learn a new bird call to boot!

2020-2021 has turned a lot of people's worlds upside down, especially children and the parents they rely on. Join me as we explore the  principles of Peaceful Parenting and work to incorporate  compassionate and positive responses into our daily routines.  From tantrums to whining, homework to sibling issues, we will  focus on how our response as adults can make all the difference  to the child, our families, and ultimately our communities. Parents  will finish the class with specific ways to approach difficult  parenting moments and a list of resources that encourage  Peaceful Parenting Principles.
