Hampden–Introduction to Clay: Handbuilding & the Pottery Wheel Session 1

Satisfy your curiosity about clay! Come get your hands dirty in this fun introduction to handbuilding and throwing clay on the pottery wheel! This 4 week class will provide hands-on instruction covering the fundamentals of clay both handbuilding and throwing: centering, opening, pulling up and shaping your pots. You’ll learn about the stages that clay goes through – from wet, to leather-hard, to bone-dry and about the hand-tools used for trimming and creating texture on pots. Please wear casual, loose fitting clothes and closed-toe shoes that can get dirty. If you would like to hand build please call the office to register. We have four pottery wheels that will be shared and utilized during each session.

Time: 6:00-7:30 pm

Hampden-Walking Club Spring Session

Too cold, dark and slippery outside to walk? Join our indoor walking club. Please use a pair of goodwalking shoes (no boots). Stay on the ground level or challenge yourself by walking between thefirst and second floors. This is an independent program with no instruction provided.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday, at Hampden Academy (No walking club during school closures)

Hampden-Barre Class Session 2

Elevate your fitness routine with our 6-week Barre series! Kris Eschman will teach this energizing class that blends ballet-inspired movements and strength training with light weights for a full-body workout that tones muscles, improves balance and posture, and builds flexibility. Perfect for all levels, each session incorporates small, controlled movements and isometric holds designed to target and sculpt every muscle group. No dance experience or equipment is required—just bring a mat, or use one of ours!

Hampden–Mindfulness and Meditation

In this class, Mya-Lisa King will use mindfulness, meditation, and visualization techniques to guide you in navigating difficult emotions and negative thought patterns, to discover the deep well of possibility within you. Research has shown that mindfulness increases the neuroplasticity of the brain, and can help with sleeplessness, stress, fatigue, anxiety, overwhelm, and burnout. This class is designed for all those seeking to explore the space beyond habitual thought and reaction, a place of self-compassion, inner wisdom and joy.

Hampden–Intermediate Watercolor

Intermediate level (some basic watercolor experience required)

In this class you'll get all the tools you need to take your watercolor paintings to the next level. We will cover drawing for a painting, composition, and how to create a finished painting. This class is designed to challenge you as an artist. Come in with your ideas and see them come to life in this exciting class. You will walk away more confident and skilled in creating beautiful scenes, still lives and portraits.

Materials Needed :

  • Set of watercolor paints (tube)
  • Paint brushes in a variety of sizes with at least one around an inch wide.
  • Cup for water
  • Paper Towels
  • Blow Dryer
  • 9x12 140lb Canson Watercolor Paper
  • Pencils
  • Masking tape
  • Artist Board
  • Micron pens
  • Optional: Easel, apron or paint shirt, box or bag to carry everything in, colored pencils, markers, and anything else you like to create with.
